Three-time 500cc World Champion Wayne Rainey firmly believes that moving from Yamaha to Ducati won’t prevent Valentino Rossi from adding to his championship tally.
Despite being forced to retire from racing in 1993, Rainey remains an avid observer of the MotoGP scene. He watches every race on the MotoGP website and the party that he hosts at his house in the hills above Monterey during the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix is one of the weekend’s highlights. This year Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies attended, as well as Yamaha race boss Lin Jarvis and former world champions Kevin Schwantz, Eddie Lawson, and Kenny Roberts.
Rainey watched last week’s final test of the season and what he saw was instructive. He thought Rossi took a different approach than Casey Stoner, who he believes was out to make a statement on the Honda RC212V.
